About Us

CHELSEA QUAVERS MUSIC SCHOOL was founded by Claire Meyer in May 2013 with the principal aim of providing excellence in music education.

We are committed to developing close working relationships with our families and tutors, many of whom remain with us since inception.

Onboarding Pupils and Families

An initial meeting (in-person or via Zoom) with one of our Principals enables parents and pupils to ask questions, and equally, we can assess a pupil’s musical abilities, discuss goals and aims, and more accurately identify the most fitting tutor for each individual pupil.

Our Tutors

Each of our tutors is hand picked for their ability to communicate effectively, readily identify individual learning styles and teach with empathy and patience. All tutors have a minimum of one music degree and a minimum of two years’ teaching experience. We carry out thorough background checks including references and a DBS check. Most of our tutors are introduced to us via recommendation.

Initial Lesson

Once we have identified the most appropriate tutor for your child, we then set up an initial lesson. For any reason a parent may arrange an initial lesson with a different tutor.

Feedback

After each lesson, your child’s tutor submits feedback to the relevant Principal. At any point during the term, parents may contact us to discuss their child’s progress or ask for a written progress report.

ABRSM Exams

Your tutor will advise when your child is ready to sit an ABRSM exam. We offer an exam booking and exam support service.

Mrs Helen Leroy Bmus PERF PGCE

Helen Leroy (née Smith) hails from the beautiful County Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland. She trained as a high dramatic soprano, specialising in performance during her Bachelor of Music degree. During her years of study, she trained with teachers and coaches in Dublin, Paris and New York.

During her years of performance as an opera singer and classical concert Soprano, she travelled and worked throughout Europe. Along with opera and classical music, Helen has a love of musicals, performing in many musicals and using many songs in her recitals and concert work.

Ten years ago, Helen completed her PGCE and qualified as a primary school teacher. In her most recent teaching post, she was a class teacher and Music Coordinator for the school. She established and led all of the choirs and prepared them for concerts. It was in this school that Helen introduced the Chelsea Quavers Music programme, launching in September 2021 and it has been thriving since. Throughout her career, she has taught singing lessons and music theory, in both 1:1 and group sessions.

Helen is passionate about music and the joy it brings to the lives of many – whether appreciating the art form or aspiring to be one of the world’s leading performers, she wants to assist in leading you there.
