We are delighted to work in support of the busy and successful Music Department at Wetherby Prep, headed up by Director of Music, Mr Nathaniel Brawn, BMus (Hons), MISM.
Open to All Year Groups
General Musicianship Club is open to all year groups, whether or not your son currently plays an instrument. Fees are payable directly to Chelsea Quavers. The Bookings System will be available shortly for the Autumn Term.
Syllabus Theory & Practical Musicianship
Using a combination of the acclaimed series of Chelsea Quavers’ Music Puzzles©, the ABRSM Theory syllabus, and the Aural & Sight Reading elements of the ABRSM Practical syllabus, pupils learn to read, write, transcribe, perform and compose music in a fun and engaging way. The art of sight reading is an important part of developing fully-rounded musicians, and this is taught using a combination of approaches including the Chelsea Quavers’ Sight Reading Programme©. What pupils learn will greatly enhance their understanding of and appreciation for music as a whole. Each pupil progresses at his individual pace.
ABRSM Accreditation | Qualifications
ABRSM graded music exams (Theory & Practical) are accredited by Ofqual in the UK and are part of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Practical and Theory exams at Grades 6–8 also attract points towards university entrance in the UK. Click here for more information.
The Silver Cup is awarded each week to a pupil showing particular effort and/or achievement, and at the end of each term one pupil is nominated for the General Musicianship Gold Cup for consistent progress and/or effort throughout the term as a whole.
Small Tutor Groups
Small Tutor Groups of an average of up to six pupils to one Tutor provide for a healthy balance of 1:1 tuition and group interaction.
Tracking your Son’s Progress
Each week a summary of your son’s progress is recorded. This enables the Wetherby Music Department to be kept fully informed. Upon request, we can provide parents with feedback at any given point during the term.
ABRSM Theory Exams
Pupils are prepared to sit ABRSM Theory Exams up to Grade 5 and beyond if required. For information on ABRSM Exam Accreditation click here.
Free Skype Tuition for Exam Candidates
Any pupil sitting an ABRSM Theory exam is given a 45 minute Skype lesson with our Principal during the term of the exam (inclusive of term’s fees). Additional Skype tuition by appointment.
