Developing fully-rounded young musicians, building life skills & self-confidence
Our popular Saturday Music Clubs engages children in a creative and fun method of learning to read, write, compose, transcribe and perform music. Our Musical Enrichment Programme© teaches children about the history of music, musical styles, composers, orchestral instruments and much more. For complete beginners to experienced young musicians. ABRSM Theory exams prepared for including accelerated Grade 5 Theory exam preparation. Some of our eleven year olds are studying for ABRSM Grade 6 Theory – an exam which attracts UCAS points. Pupils at this level are allocated a dedicated Professor of Music.
Disciplines & benefits of a music education
Numerous life skills are developed, including analytical, aural, sight-reading, spatial-temporal, non-verbal reasoning, increased neural processing and activity, memory recall, and much more. Building confidence and skills for life.
Fun, engaging and creative!
Pupils in the Seniors Group are taught to read, write, perform and compose music, as well as develop vital Aural & Sight Reading skills, all of which combine to create and develop well-rounded young musicians. Pupils are taught to accurately transcribe a rhythm/melody on manuscript that is performed to them, identify harmonic & melodic intervals, sing back a melody, and describe the texture of a piece.
Musical Enrichment Programme
Our Musical Enrichment Programme has been developed to deliver a broader musical education, beyond the limitations of the school curriculum. Examples in previous terms include song-writing, composition, electric guitar demo, violin tuition, an in-depth study of ‘Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra’, ‘Peter and the Wolf’, film motifs, performance etiquette, creating your own score, composers, moods & emotions in music, and much more.
Small Tutor Groups
All pupils work at their own individual pace, and small Tutor Groups of an average of four children per Tutor ensure a healthy balance of 1:1 attention and group interaction. Pupils are taught using a combination of the acclaimed series of Chelsea Quavers’ Music Puzzles©, the ABRSM syllabus and the Chelsea Quavers Sight Reading Programme© and CHENGA!© Pupils participate in a variety of fun and lively group activities and games including listening to different styles of music, learning about composers & musical periods, orchestral families, seating etc.
NEW! for Autumn 2021 – dedicated group tuition for Accelerated Grade 5 Theory tuition. We have a visiting Dr of Music from the Royal Academy who teaches Grade 6 Theory and above.
Each week, we readily encourage those pupils who learn an instrument to perform at Club to fellow pupils and Tutors. This is particularly important for those sitting practical exams or preparing for a concert at school. Pupils enjoy regular Tutor demonstrations and performances a variety of instruments including cello, piano, violin, bassoon, guitar (electric & acoustic), trombone. This gives pupils the opportunity to get up close and try out a number of instruments.
Tracking your child’s progress
Each week a summary of your child’s progress is recorded. Upon request, we can provide parents with feedback at any given point during the term.
We prepare those pupils who wish to sit ABRSM Theory Exams from Grade 1 to 8. These exams are accredited by OFQUAL and higher grades attract UCAS points. Click here for more information on accreditation. Integral to the Saturday Club syllabus is an education in Aural development, Sight Reading and Sight Singing – all of which have an important role in the ABRSM Practical exams. Both our children have been to a variety of Saturday clubs & holiday workshops in London, and Chelsea Quavers is the only Club they can’t wait to go back to!

Claire Meyer [Principal] is simply one of the most extraordinary educators I have ever met. She has carefully crafted a bespoke curriculum & the Chelsea Quavers’ teaching style I believe to be the future of music education & teaching in general.
